Pre-Order Borealis Estoril 300m Automatic

Maria, maybe a worthwhile idea to have a poll here on forum, for participants to choose their preference;
1) big triangle/no date
2) big triangle/with date
3) 12 w/smaller marker/with date
4) would you buy black DLC Version
Results may help with your pre-order offerings direction.

Yep, a poll might help

I actually have the impression that the crowd is quite evenly divided between date/no date and small/big triangle while very few seem to be attracted to the DLC finish...
But that might be an impression only.

As long as a big triangle no date version is made with black dial and normal stainless steel case, I'll be happy... I can live with the small triangle no date as well ;)

So much this!
I also think a DLC version is unnecessary, and would rather keep options narrow to keep the costs down.
It's impossible to please everybody, so when in doubt I would stick to the original, which would mean:
- date and no date
- SS only

I have said this already but THANK YOU for not using fake vintage lume.

Smaller borealis logo is a good suggestion, in the original the logo is fairly unobtrusive

Also Maria I had asked a couple questions but maybe you missed them because they were in a long post (or maybe you just did not have the time), so here we go:

- the case is 41.5mm, but it protrudes out, so I assume the bezel is smaller: what's the bezel measurement?

- do you have an idea of when you start preorders? I can't wait to send you my money :)

Yeah, the 2824-2 has a long history. But, it also has a few known weaknesses, in the keyless works for example if you chose to handwind it. It also has a history with the "date change time of death" where if you change the date during a looong period of time 20h to 3-4h you have a good chance of killing the date mechanism.

It also costs significantly more than the 9015 and is getting harder and harder to source if your not based in Switzerland. The 9015 on the other hand is more recent but Miyota has a long history of movement making, too. An history of making very robust movements. The 9015 has a proven track record of reliability and very good time-keeping (actually better than most 2824, excepted the chronometer version). And it costs quite a bit less and is more readily available.

Honestly, having tasted the two and worked a bit on the two, I'd chose the 9015 over a base or even élaboré 2824-2 every time even if the price was the same.
Pakz,
I totally agree, and I couldn't have said it better! Also, the 9015 has considerably less positional variation, less isochronism, and a little more power reserve.

I agree with the small marker at 12, with the number 12 under it, for the date version. Til now, I didn't think this was a possibility. Numbers at 6,9,and 12 and date at 3, would add better balance to the dial of this version.
Again, I agree with SDGenius, the 12 with the date window, or the large triangle with no date.
I also believe that the black DLC version may not be all that popular for this homage, and therefore may not be worth wasting $$ producing.

I totally dig a smaller top-of-the-hour inverted triangle with a "12" hour index as well. Additionally, I am all for using the same font for the 12, 3, 6 & 9 hour indices and for the bezel minute indices.

For the first time ever, I will opt for a no-date (black dial, of course) version. :)

SuperP,

Thanks for the lovely renderings.

The bottom-left rendering is the one I like most. That is the no-date version with the "12" o'clock numbered index.

Agreed! As other have mentioned, I would like to see the "m" removed after the 300. Also, maybe we could see the Borealis in smaller font and AUTOMATIC underneath.

Thanks super P. I'll go for the "12" with no date. Cos if the big triangle would have 2 triangles at 12 o clock.
Either way will see how the project develops as nothing is cast in stone except the movt n lume colour

Well, I signed up here just for this watch. Will be my first Borealis.

My preference is the 12 with date, or the Triangle no date. To me, having the Triangle with date is very unbalanced, as the 6 and 9 are just out of place on an otherwise numberless dial. Also don't care for the DLC.

I'm all for fewer choices and lower cost. Too many cooks spoil the pot.

I'll be ordering one, regardless of what is decided.
