Panerai uses rocky grey to great effect in this new mid-sized eSteel Submersible; it’s my pick of the three new Submersible QuarantaQuattro eSteel models.
You don’t need to be proficient in Italian to work out what QuarantaQuattro is all about; QuarantaQuattro is to 2022’s new Submersibles collection what quattro formaggi is to pizza!
It’s Panerai’s newfangled way of referring to a recently introduced 44mm case diameter for their dedicated Submersible diver’s watch family –
a byword if you will, where by all new models moving forward will now receive their case-size designations in Italian; such as the Luminor Quaranta models.
Why? Well because QuarantaQuattro just sounds better than 44mm, doesn’t it!
Say hello to the new Submersible QuarantaQuattro eSteel™ Grigio Roccia AKA PAM01288 which was introduced alongside several other QuarantaQuattro (44mm) Submersible models at Watches and Wonders 2022 in Geneva.
Its new mid-size 44mm case is made from, dolphin-friendly, sustainable, recycled, brushed eSteel™. This comes with a bit of a premium, though.
Special features of the watch include its lovely anthracite polished gradient dial with charcoal ceramic bezel inlay. Btw water-resistance is to 300m. Meanwhile its grey winding-crown matches its grey tone on tone hand-stitched textile strap.
Powering the watch is an automatic mechanical, P.900 caliber, with 23 jewels, 28,800 alternations/hour, Incabloc anti-shock protection and a power-reserve of 3 days.
MSRP in Switzerland is CHF 10'900 incl. sales tax.
Thoughts? Got to hand it to Panerai – few have made dull grey quite so appealing. There’s a sexy Aquastar DEPTHSTAR in grey too. What do you think?
