The Future of Borealis - My Vision!

This is just an opinion piece by me, a fun little flight of fancy and just what I would do if I was running Borealis.

First off, I would ditch ALL watches in the catalogue except the Francis Drake and the Sea Hawk. Those are the two best watches in the catalogue and the others, even the new ones in the planning phase, are all too similar to each other IMO. All except the two previously mentioned would disappear.

Secondly, I would add a Sea Hawk GMT to the list (watch fans can never get enough quality GMT watches. They often sell out from other manufacturers), followed by an Explorer-style watch and then, lastly, a pilot watch. In total that would be 5 watches in the Borealis catalogue. Popular watches, well made watches, affordable watches, not overreaching oneself as a company and nothing too similar to each other.

That's what I would do :) Anyone agree? Disagree? What would you do if you were in charge of Borealis?

I would kill all the sub lookalikes, make simple divers with internal bezel in ti and bronze, carbon shroud for sea dragon, internal bezel GMT

I love the GMT, but besides that, I kind of like how Borealis is taking their own designs (Sea Dragon) and bringing it to life, as well as taking offerings such as the case for the I believe it's called the sailfish now, and turning it into a great looking watch. I'm inclined to agree with frenco about the sub look-a-likes (with some exceptions). I say keep doing what you're doing Borealis, as long as its quality at good prices, it works.

why should they suddenly start making an explorer and a pilot watch? I would say, concentrate on a good diver. Asides a GMT just requires a different bezel insert and a movement that can support it. Assembly wise that should not be (much) more complicated than a different color version.

Borealis have been mooting a pilot watch for some time now...just look at their website. The suggestion, therefore, is not a new or surprising one. An Explorer-style watch would be a welcome addition to the stable and, if done well, would likely prove a popular one.

The problem when a start-up floods the market with multiple divers that are all rather similar (eg. nearly all of them are deep sea divers), they run the risk of diluting the market for any one of their watches. Reducing the amount of their divers, concentrating on the best ones while (slightly) broadening their base would help to offset that.

Thank God you're not :p

Hey Wraith here's a Great new idea....Why don't YOU go out and get your Own watch Co. and source your Own parts...Mfger's.....Website and then you can take ALL these Great ideas and put them to task w/Your Own Money...... ;)

ps: Btw Borealis specializes in Dive watches as well as their sister Co. Prometheus ..Hence ALL the DEEP DIVE watch influence ....... ;)

Why don't you?

Nothing wrong with dive watches. Nothing wrong with other styles of watches, either.
100% Correct nothing wrong w/Dive watches Hence the need to have so many in their line of Dive watches.

I don't have any issue's w/Borealis and their approach to the watch business so there for I don't feel the NEED to tell them how to run their Co. So i have NO Need to start a watch Co.... Nor give them my Vision on how to Run their Co...... Nor tell them to Scrap their catalogue of watches. So No i'm not interested in starting a Dive watch Co. nor telling folk's how to run their business.

And why must they do the same as Prometheus? Do they both have to focus on the same watches all of the time?

I'm not telling them what to do or how to run their company. If you re-read my very first post in this thread, you'll see that this is merely fun speculation on my part. A fun flight of fancy. Nothing more. If you're not willing to partake of the fun, then don't participate in this thread!

Frank,

What i read is you felt that Borealis needed to scrap their current line up w/exception to the Sea Hawk and Francis Drake. They have a great line up of up and coming models which ALL have a different look and appeal to them unlike other brands out there. If someone want's a line up of watches that only look like the Sea Hawk and Francis Drake and a few pilot watches sprinkled in STEINHART has what your looking for. Me and a whole lot of other's tend to Fancy what they are doing and the approach to different Dive watches they are working on. I don't Need you to tell me which thread i can partake in and not partake in either. Now i did read your orig post and it was merely a If " I " own this Co. i would do this for fun thread and i understand that. However what i don't understand is why folk's come on a DIVE watch Co. Forum and complain about Dive watches being produced..lol..Makes Zero sense in my mind anyway. Just thinking outloud..No harm intended
