My vote is yes, anything that helps to lessen the stranglehold on supply and demand with the current movement situation is always welcome, better late than never.
Movement is serviceable and parts compatible with ETA, Sellita, Hangzhou, Seagull, ... likely the most serviceable movements in the world.I'm in for it as long as it is reliable and isn't too expensive, sure it is nice to have Swiss but if anything breaks or needs servicing I don't want a watch that no one has parts or can fix.
Interesting, sounds like one can get more date wheel colors to match dials as an option.I read this article recently on STP movements - http://www.ablogtowatch.com/visit-stp-watch-movement-manufacture-fossil-group-answer-eta/
I have had good luck with my time pieces equipped with Miyota engines (both 8217 & 901x's). They all have been between +2.5 and +6.0 s/d. I had subject Miyota movements to hour-long exercise routines with no obvious negative impact on long-term reliability and accuracy.Although ETA has been cutting supplies of their movements some new contenders start to appear as it is the case of Ronda with their series 100 movement (though not available before mid 2017) and STP Watch Movement with the STP1-11 that are direct replacements of the ETA 2824-2.
The STP1-11 is available for order without long lead times which may actually present an opportunity for future usage.

They are Swiss Made as per Swiss laws and the barrel spring seems to be fully Swiss Made as can be attested by the 44 hours power reserve unlike the Asian counterparts of Hangzhou and Seagull that have 38 hours reserve.
What are your thoughts on the usage of this movement in future projects?
Yes, an no. Minimum order for customization of date wheels is ordering 1000 movements so really not that simple. For orders below 1000 pcs all you get is white disc, black numbers and with crown at 3 as they say their production lines are still being optimized and they want to keep work flowing.Interesting, sounds like one can get more date wheel colors to match dials as an option.
Quite correct almost all parts are interchangeable with the brands quoted. Engineering tolerances are almost identical, only the finishing will vary.Movement is serviceable and parts compatible with ETA, Sellita, Hangzhou, Seagull, ... likely the most serviceable movements in the world.
