STP Watch Movement Manufacture STP1-11

My vote is yes, anything that helps to lessen the stranglehold on supply and demand with the current movement situation is always welcome, better late than never.

I love the Miyota 90XX series, but if the prices are going up too much and they get hard to get by, I say for it with the STP
They don't seem a bad alternative at all...

I'm in for it as long as it is reliable and isn't too expensive, sure it is nice to have Swiss but if anything breaks or needs servicing I don't want a watch that no one has parts or can fix.

Movement is serviceable and parts compatible with ETA, Sellita, Hangzhou, Seagull, ... likely the most serviceable movements in the world.

I'd have no problem with this movement at all - I'd like to hear how precise it is and any general opinions on it so if you could get a couple of movements to test out it would be great. The fact it's Swiss doesn't mean anything to me personally - Japanese, Swiss - all the same from my perspective. I do like the eccentric screw for regulating Swiss movements though, makes it easier to make fine adjustments when working on the watch yourself than the more crude method the Japanese movements use. On the flip side - the Miyota 9015 is quite thin compared to some other movements allowing a little thinner of a watch case. There are any amount of large watches available today but slimmer and smaller proportioned ones are much harder to come by.

I read this article recently on STP movements - http://www.ablogtowatch.com/visit-stp-watch-movement-manufacture-fossil-group-answer-eta/

It appears the only unknown would be long term reliability (no real history, thus no proven track record) ! But it also appears based on where the primary construct parts are being sourced that this movement should not have a problem with falling in line with the other comparable movement that have been discussed! So if you can lock down a deal with this company at a price range you know to be fair for the foreseeable future, while still keeping Borealis/Prometheus as one of the new kingpins in the affordable micro/boutique brand category, whilst also adding the Swiss Made caveat to the label, than this seems to fit into the "no brainer" contemplation factor ;)! My vote is (y)! As usual Maria it appears that your Co. is staying one step ahead of the competition in order to ensure its future and also brand loyalty!

Although ETA has been cutting supplies of their movements some new contenders start to appear as it is the case of Ronda with their series 100 movement (though not available before mid 2017) and STP Watch Movement with the STP1-11 that are direct replacements of the ETA 2824-2.

The STP1-11 is available for order without long lead times which may actually present an opportunity for future usage.

They are Swiss Made as per Swiss laws and the barrel spring seems to be fully Swiss Made as can be attested by the 44 hours power reserve unlike the Asian counterparts of Hangzhou and Seagull that have 38 hours reserve.

What are your thoughts on the usage of this movement in future projects?
I have had good luck with my time pieces equipped with Miyota engines (both 8217 & 901x's). They all have been between +2.5 and +6.0 s/d. I had subject Miyota movements to hour-long exercise routines with no obvious negative impact on long-term reliability and accuracy.

My Tissot LeLocle Chronometre is equipped with the etanche version of the 2824-2 calibre has been tracking at a steady +2.5 s/d since 2013 and still going strong. Touch wood!

In short, I have been happy with both Miyota and ETA movements. These movements, once adjusted properly, are both reliable and accurate to within COSC specifications.

As pricing on the 9015 calibre has been on the upward trend and it does not appear that it has peaked yet, I strongly favor going with the STP equivalent of the 2824-2 calibre. We must send Miyota/Citizen a message that we won't tolerate unreasonable price increase.

Interesting, sounds like one can get more date wheel colors to match dials as an option.
Yes, an no. Minimum order for customization of date wheels is ordering 1000 movements so really not that simple. For orders below 1000 pcs all you get is white disc, black numbers and with crown at 3 as they say their production lines are still being optimized and they want to keep work flowing.

After all it is a factory built for production volumes so if trying to customize things prices and minimum quantities increase exponentially for a micro brand.

I have the STP1-11 in a Swiss Legend and it works a treat. Long reserve, quite rotar and good time keeping. Im over see through backs, just another POF in watches, what i like is accurate pics of the movement and a nice engraved back. Love the BOREALIS i got on sale and am looking forward to getting another!
